Nelsons Summit 50/50

Nelson's Summit 50/50 returns for its seventh year on October 23, 2027, promising an unforgettable adventure through the rugged and majestic Allegany State Park. Situated within New York’s largest state park at nearly 65,000 acres, this event offers a blend of challenging terrain and breathtaking scenery that will leave runners in awe.
Participants can choose from three distances: the grueling 50-mile course, the slightly less daunting but still formidable 50km route, or the more manageable yet equally scenic 25km loop. Each distance features double-track cross-country ski trails winding through rolling hills and dense forests, providing a mix of runnable terrain and steep climbs that will test even the most seasoned ultrarunners.
The course is meticulously marked with flags and signs to guide runners along its roughly 16-mile loop, which includes approximately 2,250 feet of elevation gain. For those tackling the full 50 miles or kilometers, generous cutoff times ensure a chance for completion despite the challenging nature of the trails. Aid stations are well-stocked with essential supplies like water, Skratch hydration mix, and an array of snacks including orange slices, bananas, pickles, PB&J sandwiches, potato chips, pretzels, Oreo cookies, and candy. Hot food options such as ramen noodles and grilled cheese will be available for the 50-mile runners after mile 34.
The race begins and concludes at the Art Roscoe warming hut in Red House, surrounded by a supportive community of trail enthusiasts, friends, family, and volunteers who cheer on every participant throughout their journey. Nelson's Summit 50/50 is sanctioned by USATF, approved by Trail Sisters, and recognized as part of the UTMB Index series.
All runners will receive a pair of coveted SCTR socks upon registration, while top finishers in each gender division for all three distances will be awarded prizes. This event offers more than just competition; it’s an opportunity to explore one of New York's most spectacular natural landscapes and connect with fellow trail runners who share your passion for the outdoors.
