About the Event
Starting 8:00 AM on Sunday, September 13 at Ethnic Unity Square, Shangri-La, Diqing, Yunnan, this newly launched race -- organized by China's National Olympic Sports Center with center-certified finisher documents -- offers a 10K competitive run (3,000 spots) and a ~5K Ethnic Unity Fun Run (2,000 spots), for 5,000 runners total. Registration runs July 16 10:00 through August 15, with early-bird pricing through July 23; if oversubscribed, entries are decided by lottery announced late August, with full refunds for unsuccessful applicants. The course loops the core scenic corridor from the old town of Dukezong to Napa Lake Wetland Park, tracing early-autumn scenery and centuries of tea-horse trading history at every turn. September is Shangri-La's most beautiful month, just after the rains: unusually blue skies, golden barley fields, wild poppy-blossom color across the grassland, and cooking smoke rising from Tibetan villages in the morning mist -- an easy few days to also visit Pudacuo, Songzanlin Monastery, the old town, and Napa Lake around the race.
