About the Event

The Mývatnsmaraþon takes place on Saturday, 30 May 2026 around the breathtaking Lake Mývatn in North Iceland. This flat, paved course circles one of the country's most beautiful natural pearls, offering marathon, half marathon, and 10 km distances. The race starts and finishes near the Mývatn Nature Baths (Jarðböðin við Mývatn), where all finishers receive a well-deserved hamburger, a beer from Mývatn Öl, and free entry to the geothermal baths.

Prizes are awarded to the first three men and first three women in each distance, plus a generous raffle draw. The marathon has a strict 6‑hour cutoff. Timing ends at approximately 4:00 PM. The awards ceremony takes place at 2:30 PM at the Mývatn Nature Baths. Online registration closes on 29 May 2026, with same‑day registration available on 30 May.

Same weekend, the Mývatnshringurinn (cycling race) also starts from the Nature Baths at 9:55 AM. This 42.2 km road cycling event is open to the public—families and friend groups are highly encouraged to ride together. E‑bikes are allowed but not eligible for placement. All cyclists receive a timed result, plus bath access, hamburger, and beer. Awards for the top three finishers. Registration fee applies for adults and reduced rate for children aged 12–15.
