About the Event

The Mourne Mountain Marathon offers an unparalleled challenge for teams of two over the course of two days, blending navigation skills with endurance on the rugged terrain of Northern Ireland's Mourne Mountains. Participants are given a list of control points identified by six-figure Ordnance Survey map references at the start of each day and must navigate to these checkpoints in sequence while choosing their own routes.
Self-sufficiency is key as teams carry all necessary equipment for an overnight camp deep within the mountains, where they will spend one night camping under the stars. The atmosphere around the campfire is warm and welcoming, fostering a sense of camaraderie among competitors despite the grueling nature of the event. While basic in amenities, this experience offers breathtaking views that make every hardship worthwhile.
For those who cannot commit to the full two-day adventure but still wish to partake in the navigation challenge, there's also a 6-hour Score race available on Saturday. This condensed version allows participants to test their skills without the commitment of an overnight stay.
All teams are encouraged to use the Mourne Mountains 1:25,000 map published by Harvey Maps for optimal performance during the event. These maps can be purchased from most reputable outdoor retailers and online platforms.
Due to high demand, some options may require a vetting or waiting list process where no payment is necessary initially. If selected, participants will receive an email invitation with instructions on how to confirm their entry through our website.
