The Mortimer Forest Trail Race returns on December 13, 2026, promising an unforgettable adventure through the stunning landscapes of Mortimer Forest straddling Herefordshire and Shropshire. Due to ongoing forestry work around Bringewood, this year's route has been slightly adjusted but remains as challenging and rewarding as ever. The centerpiece of the event is a 10-mile race that winds its way through diverse terrain within the forest. The course includes steep climbs up High Vinnalls before descending with breathtaking views across the Welsh Marches to the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons. Participants should expect sections covered in mud, hills, and scenic trails that showcase the best of Mortimer Forest's natural beauty. For those seeking a shorter option, there is also a 4-mile race available, which still offers a climb up High Vinnalls but sticks to larger tracks for much of its length. Both routes begin near Blackpool carpark, just a short walk from Moor Park School where the event’s HQ and parking are located. This year's start times have been updated: the 4-mile course starts at 11:00 AM followed by the 10-mile race starting at 11:15 AM. Marshals will line both routes to ensure a safe passage for all runners, while detailed signage guides participants through each section. To participate in the longer distance event, racers must be aged 19 or older; those opting for the shorter route need only be 15 years old and up. Race medallions are available on a first-come-first-served basis at £4 each to support local craftsmanship and independent businesses. Given limited parking spaces near Moor Park School, organizers encourage carpooling or using public transportation to minimize disruption in the community. No dogs are permitted along either race route; humans only please! The event is supported by Forestry England with permission granted through The Association of Running Clubs (ARC/26/0691). Proceeds from donations will benefit Friends of Mortimer Forest and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, contributing to conservation efforts within the forest.
