Montanaro Trail

The MTR Montanaro Trail is a high-altitude running event set in the heart of the Pistoiese Mountains. Scheduled for Sunday, May 10, 2026, the race invites athletes to experience the rugged beauty of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Organized by the San Marcello P.se section of ASCD Silvano Fedi in collaboration with UISP, the event is known for its blend of challenging technical trails and traditional Tuscan hospitality. Registration for this edition officially opens on November 15.

The event offers three distinct distances to cater to various levels of fitness and disciplines, ranging from an grueling ultra-marathon to a dedicated trail for Nordic walkers.

The race unfolds across a diverse landscape of ancient forests, crystalline streams, and exposed mountain ridges. Participants on the longer routes will reach the peaks of the Apennines, offering panoramic views of the Tuscan landscape. In early May, the Pistoiese Mountains typically offer crisp mountain air with average temperatures around 15°C, though conditions on the ridges can be significantly more variable. The trails are described as winding and "true to nature," requiring technical focus and determination.

The "La 50" ultra-distance features a competitive prize structure for the top performers. The first five male and female athletes in the absolute category will be recognized, with top prizes including a trophy and expense reimbursements ranging from 50.00 € up to 300.00 €. Additionally, technical prizes are awarded to the top five veteran runners (both men and women) to honor experience and longevity in the sport.

The event is headquartered in San Marcello Pistoiese, serving as the gateway to the race routes. The organizers provide extensive resources for participants, including recommendations for local accommodation and detailed travel guides. Timing and official rankings are managed through Wedosport, and the event draws on a long tradition of mountain racing in the region.
