Molokai Marathon

The Molokai Marathon, scheduled for October 2, 2027, invites runners of all levels to experience the beauty and spirit of Moloka'i Island through movement. Organized by Youth in Motion, this race not only challenges participants with its scenic course but also supports local youth initiatives.
Starting at the Molokai Community Health Center (MCHC) in Kaunakakai, competitors will embark on a 26.2-mile journey that showcases the island's rugged terrain and stunning vistas. The marathon route includes an awe-inspiring climb to Pālāʻau State Park where runners face almost 2,300 feet of elevation gain before descending back down.
The weekend kicks off with packet pickup and vendor expo on Friday from 3:00-8:00 PM at MCHC. Enjoy live music, local food vendors, and cultural demonstrations while picking up your race gear. Race day events begin early Saturday morning, with the marathon starting at 5:00 AM.
Participants will be treated to a post-race celebration featuring Molokai's finest cuisine and entertainment along the shores of Kaunakakai Harbor. Awards ceremonies for various age groups are scheduled throughout the afternoon, culminating in an oceanside luncheon celebrating all runners' achievements.
In addition to supporting local youth through sports programs, this event emphasizes sustainability by operating as a cupless race with reusable HydraPak SpeedCups provided at packet pickup. Race organizers encourage participants and spectators alike to embrace Moloka'i’s natural beauty responsibly while enjoying the vibrant community atmosphere.
For those interested in joining but not able to be present on-island, there's also a Virtual Global Challenge where runners can complete their chosen distance from anywhere around the world and still receive official race swag.
