Medvejie Solstice Run

About the Event

The Medvejie Solstice Run is scheduled for June 20, 2026 at 9 AM. Mark your calendars and ratchet up those miles!

Please join us for the 19th running of this SHS XC and Track program fundraiser. The 3 distance events will begin and end at Herring Cove, adjacent to the Beaver Lake Trailhead parking lot at the end of Sawmill Creek Road. All races will head out toward Medvejie Hatchery and back. The 1/2 marathon turn-around is at the Green Lake Power House, 10K near the Medvejie Hatchery, and the 5K at about half-way out to the hatchery. This is a hilly course, please train accordingly. In-person registration will be available on race day until 8:30 am at Herring Cove.

Registration fees: $30 - 5K, $35 - 10K and $45 - 1/2 marathon. A non cotton T-shirt is included for the first 75 entrants. (SHS students run for free - t-shirt can be purchased separately.)

About Sitka

Sitka is a city of about 9,000 on the Pacific Ocean coast of Baranof Island in Alaska. First settled by Tlingit Aboriginal people, Sitka also has history as a Russian settlement, established in 1799 by Alexander Baranoff of the Russian American Company, which became the Russian capital of Alaska. In 1867, when Russia sold Alaska to the US, the transfer ceremony took place on Castle Hill at Sitka on October 18, a day celebrated as Alaska Day. Sitka now attracts about a quarter million visitors a year.
