The 1st Edition of the Medieval Marathon of Seine-et-Marne is set to launch on Sunday, May 10, 2026. Organized by the Seine-et-Marne Departmental Council and championed by actor Lorànt Deutsch, this innovative event merges high-level sports with historical heritage. The marquee race connects two iconic Middle Ages landmarks: the Castle of Blandy-les-Tours and the medieval city of Provins, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Spanning 14 municipalities and 6 specific "medieval sectors," the marathon offers runners a unique journey through time across the French countryside.

Seine-et-Marne is a vast, green department in the eastern part of the Île-de-France region, home to approximately 1.4 million residents. The local demographic features a blend of suburban commuters and rural agricultural communities, with a median annual household income of roughly €24,500. Geographically, the race traverses the Brie plateau, known for its fertile plains and gentle valleys. While the elevation is not mountainous, the exposed roads of the plateau can be windy, and the final stretch into the fortified city of Provins includes historically authentic paved sections. The climate in early May is generally temperate, with average temperatures around 16°C, providing excellent conditions for endurance running.
The official ticketing portal opened on November 27, 2025, through the Department of Seine-et-Marne's online platform. To celebrate the launch, a special promotion offered the first 77 bibs for each race at a symbolic price of €7. In addition to the athletic competition, the event serves as a cultural festival with medieval-themed entertainment stationed along the route to engage both runners and spectators. Detailed video previews of the routes and the full press kit are available for download on the official marathon website. For any inquiries, the Departmental Council can be reached at their headquarters in Melun via telephone at 01.64.14.77.77.
