Marathon Bresse Dombes

Step into the heart of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes for an unforgettable running experience at the Marathon de Bresse Dombes, scheduled for April 25, 2027. Nestled in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne within the picturesque region of Ain, this event seamlessly blends sporting excellence with a festive atmosphere that is hard to resist.
Since its inception in 2021, the Marathon de Bresse Dombes has become an unmissable springtime highlight, celebrated for its unique blend of athletic challenge and cultural immersion. The seventh edition promises even more excitement, boasting record-breaking participation from previous years—5,522 runners signed up in 2026.
Runners can choose between a marathon or half marathon with solo or relay options, including the brand-new Mara-3nsemble format for teams of two to four members. For those looking for shorter distances, there are also 10 km and 5 km races available, alongside charity walks that support the French League Against Cancer.
The race courses offer a taste of local charm with elevation gains adding an extra layer of challenge: 281 meters of ascent in the marathon and 178 meters in the half. Yet, these climbs are balanced by gourmet aid stations featuring regional delicacies, ensuring runners' palates as well as their legs get a workout.
Beyond the physical challenges lies the enchanting beauty of bucolic landscapes—villages with unique charm, wooded paths, Dombes ponds, and historic castles. The event encourages participants to embrace its whimsical spirit by dressing up in costumes for an added dash of fun and creativity. With 14 entertainment points along the route and musical performances throughout the villages, this race is as much about celebration as it is competition.
Don't miss your chance to be a part of this one-of-a-kind event that combines scenic beauty with culinary delights and festive camaraderie. Whether you're running solo or in costume, the Marathon de Bresse Dombes offers an experience like no other on April 25, 2027.
