Maple Leaf Races "In Training" Classes

The Maple Leaf Races "In Training" Classes return to La Crosse, Wisconsin on June 26th. The event is a series of training classes for runners preparing for the YMCA Maple Leaf half marathon or the Hixon 25k group training.
Race morning in July finds participants gathering at the picturesque Riverside Park. The atmosphere is invigorating and serene with the Mississippi River providing an iconic backdrop. Runners can expect a firm, slightly soft surface as they navigate through La Crosse's vibrant neighbourhoods, making this a rewarding experience for all skill levels. This year marks the third time these training classes have been offered in La Crosse, having drawn over 100 participants each year to support local charities and foster community engagement.
The course venue is set along the well-maintained trails of Riverside Park, offering both scenic views and a challenging yet manageable terrain for those preparing for their half marathon or 25k distance. Runners will start at the park’s main entrance on State Street, where they'll be greeted by enthusiastic volunteers before embarking on their journey. The route features several notable landmarks such as the La Crosse Locks and Dam, adding to the charm of the course.
On race morning, expect a temperature range between 70°F to 85°F with an UV index at Very High levels. This means runners should come prepared for bright sunshine, so sunscreen and plenty of water are essential. The route is firm underfoot but slightly soft in some sections due to natural conditions, which can make running feel a bit more challenging.

Bibs can be picked up at Riverside Park’s main entrance from 4 to 7 pm on race day or any time during business hours in the weeks leading up to the event. Bring your photo ID and proof of payment for a quick pickup process.
The start location is at State Street, near Riverside Park. Age requirements are open to all runners, but first-timers should ensure they have an active Facebook account with access to join our closed group for training updates.
