Lunatic Loop 6/12 hour run

Dive into an unforgettable endurance adventure with the Lunatic Loop, hosted by San Diego Ultra Running Friends (SURF) on December 12, 2026. This unique race unfolds around a challenging yet scenic loop course near Mt. Woodson in Ramona, California. Participants can choose between two durations: a grueling 12-hour run or the more manageable but still demanding 6-hour option.
The singletrack route winds through approximately 1.5 miles of rugged terrain, featuring boulder fields and remnants of an avocado orchard. Each lap presents over 300 feet of elevation gain, ensuring that endurance runners will face a consistent challenge throughout their chosen duration. A well-stocked aid station is conveniently placed for easy access to hydration, nutrition, and electrolyte drinks.
This event celebrates the spirit of community within SURF, offering a relaxed yet supportive atmosphere where cheers and camaraderie abound. Spectators are welcome to join in the fun with picnic food provided by Pat and Debbie Meskell, as well as opportunities to play pickleball or take a dip in the pool after your run.
Registration for this exclusive event opens on October 5, 2026, through UltraSignup (SURF membership required). Start times are set at 8:00 AM for both early and late participants of the 12-hour race, with an additional start time at 2:00 PM for those opting for a shorter but still intense 6-hour run. Parking is guided by volunteers near the private residence where this grassroots event takes place.
