Lunar Landing 5K and Kids K

The Lunar Landing 5K & Kids 1K 2026 returns to Clear Lake Recreation and Community Center in Houston, Texas on Saturday, July 18th. Nestled near the historic Bay Area Boulevard and El Camino Real, this vibrant venue serves as a reminder of mankind's greatest leap forward: Apollo 11’s lunar landing mission. The race begins at dawn with the Kids 1K, followed shortly by the 5K run, making it an ideal family event.
The atmosphere on Race Day is electric, filled with the sounds of excited chatter and the scent of hot Texas summer air. As runners line up under the morning sun, they can gaze over to the nearby Galveston Bay, which seems both vast and intimate in this setting. This event has been running since 2014, supported by Running Alliance Sport’s Texas 5K Series. Over the years, it has become a cherished tradition among locals, drawing participants from all walks of life to commemorate that historic moment in space exploration. The course itself takes runners through the Clear Lake Recreation and Community Center’s sprawling grounds. With its mix of paved paths and slightly undulating terrain, it offers a challenge while remaining manageable for all skill levels. Mile markers are clearly marked along the way, providing visual cues and encouraging steady pacing. Notable features include a small pond where participants can glimpse local wildlife during their run.
Starting at 7:00 AM, runners will find themselves on a course that measures out to exactly five kilometers or roughly three miles for the main event. The finish line is just steps from the start area, ensuring a quick transition back into the morning festivities. Aid stations are strategically placed along the route with water and sports drinks available at key points.
Weather conditions in July can be quite warm; expect temperatures around 29 degrees Celsius (84°F) with humidity levels of about 77%. Runners should prepare for comfortable warmth, with a slight breeze coming from the east. While there is no significant chance of rain expected on Race Day, it’s always wise to bring a light jacket or umbrella just in case.
Bib pickup will be held at the Clear Lake Recreation and Community Center on July 17 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM or on Race Day starting at 4:00 PM. Bring your ID for verification and any additional items you may need, such as hydration packs or running gear.
The start location is at the Clear Lake Recreation and Community Center, located at 16511 Diana Lane in Houston, Texas. Participants must be over 13 years old to run the 5K, while there are no age restrictions for the Kids 1K. First-timers should plan ahead and familiarize themselves with the course layout beforehand.
