About the Event

The Lumberjack 100 returns to Port Gamble, Washington on June 6th, marking the start of another exhilarating journey through the Uplands for endurance runners from across the region and beyond. This year marks our impressive fifteen-year milestone as we welcome athletes back to this iconic course nestled in a serene yet challenging landscape.
On race day, expect the lush greenery of early summer to envelop you as dawn breaks over Port Gamble’s scenic trails. The air carries the scent of pine needles and damp earth—a perfect setting for those who seek solitude amidst nature's grandeur while pushing their limits against time. This event is more than just a run; it's an immersion into the heart of Washington's temperate forests, where each step feels connected to the vibrant community spirit.
With fifteen years under its belt, Lumberjack 100 has established itself as not only a test of physical endurance but also a celebration of camaraderie and perseverance. Over these years, thousands have laced up their shoes and ventured into the woods for this grueling yet rewarding event. Participants range from seasoned ultrarunners to those looking for an unforgettable adventure in one of America’s most beautiful natural settings. The race supports local initiatives that enhance environmental conservation efforts within Port Gamble's rich ecosystem.
The course itself winds through a mix of single-track trails and dirt roads, offering runners approximately 1350 feet of elevation gain per loop over its twelve-and-a-half-mile distance. Each lap is uniquely marked with reflective tape and arrows to ensure clear navigation even under the dim light of dawn or dusk when hot food awaits at two fully stocked aid stations every six miles. The start/finish area also hosts massage therapists and reflexologists, providing essential support for those navigating longer distances.
Weather in Port Gamble during June typically offers mild temperatures with an average feeling around 15.8°C, making it ideal for endurance efforts without the extremes of summer heat or winter chill. Runners should anticipate a moderate wind at 9.1 km/h and humidity levels averaging about 70%. The trail conditions are firm yet slightly soft underfoot, allowing for comfortable but steady progress through the terrain.
