Lowell 5K Run/Walk

The Lowell 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Lowell Elementary School in Wheaton, IL. This long-standing community event began in 1997 and is currently hosted by the Lowell PTA. Wheaton is a prominent suburb in DuPage County with a population of approximately 53,000. The city’s demographic profile is 81.3% White, 6.2% Asian, 5.7% Hispanic or Latino, and 3.9% Black or African American. The 2026 race is dedicated to supporting My Half Kitchen, a local non-profit bakery that provides employment and job training to women in DuPage County who are overcoming significant hardships and obstacles to employment.

Race Experience and Awards

The course is a flat, timed, double loop through the surrounding residential neighborhood, beginning and ending at the school on South President Street. The event is highly inclusive; strollers are permitted (starting at the back), and the PTA offers assistance for participants who are financially restricted. The awards structure is uniquely focused on the student population, with 1st place male and female awards given for every grade level from Kindergarten through 12th Grade, as well as an Adult 18+ category. Every participant who crosses the finish line will receive a finisher ribbon.

Registration and Logistics

The registration fee is $18.50, which is inclusive of all mandatory charges. It is important to note that race shirts are not included in the registration fee but can be purchased separately for $10.00 by the April 9th deadline. Mandatory pre-race check-in occurs on Friday, April 17th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the school. Last-minute registration and packet pickup are available on race day from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM. For safety and school policy, dogs, rollerblades, scooters, and bikes are strictly prohibited on the course and school grounds.

Community Impact

Proceeds directly fund My Half Kitchen's mission to provide skill development workshops and sustainable work environments for women in need. The event is supported by local donors including Trader Joe's of Glen Ellyn, Culligan Water, and Costco.
