Nestled in the scenic landscapes of Black Mountain and Montreat, North Carolina, runners are invited to experience an unforgettable journey up Lookout Mountain at the Lookout Trail Challenge. This race is uniquely designed for those who crave both speed on paved roads and technical prowess on rugged trails.
The event kicks off promptly at 10:00 AM from Lookout Brewing Company in Black Mountain. Participants will embark on a challenging yet rewarding route, covering approximately ten miles that blend road racing with trail running. The course is an out-and-back journey to the Lookout Trailhead and back again, offering runners breathtaking views of lush greenery and winding paths.
Upon reaching the trailhead around mile three, athletes will encounter one of two aid stations where they can refuel with water, snacks, cold beer, and a touch of local flavor courtesy of food trucks. The second aid station awaits near mile eight to ensure participants remain energized for their journey home.
The highlight of this race is undoubtedly the ascent up Lookout Mountain via its iconic trail. This section challenges even seasoned trail runners with steep climbs and technical terrain that test both endurance and agility. After conquering the mountain, racers will enjoy a swift descent back down towards Black Mountain to conclude at Lookout Brewing Company.
Awards are generously provided by local businesses including Mountain Running Company and Lookout Brewing, offering top male and female finishers special prizes along with awesome hoodies for all participants who can claim a beer token (for those 21+).
For parking arrangements, competitors should note that there is no designated space at the brewery itself. Instead, free public lots in downtown Black Mountain are conveniently located within walking distance of the start/finish line.
Registration cancellations or transfers after January 1, 2027, will not be entertained under any circumstances due to Luis Escobar's strict policy on refunds and transfers. This ensures a fair playing field for all participants who have committed their time and effort leading up to race day.
