Since its inception in 2010, the Longhorn Run has become an eagerly anticipated springtime tradition for students, alumni, faculty, staff, and Austin residents alike. Organized by enthusiastic student volunteers with support from Recreational Sports, this annual event takes place on Saturday, April 17th, inviting runners to explore the scenic Forty Acres campus. Participants can choose between a challenging 5K or an even more rigorous 10K course that winds through picturesque landscapes and iconic landmarks of The University of Texas at Austin. Both routes offer breathtaking views and a vibrant atmosphere filled with spirited supporters cheering on every runner along the way. In addition to the competitive spirit, Longhorn Run fosters community engagement and philanthropy by raising funds for important initiatives. Proceeds from this year's event will support Student Government projects and enhance recreational facilities through RecSports Excellence Funds, ensuring that future generations of Longhorns can enjoy a wide range of athletic opportunities on campus. Registration opens Wednesday, February 17th, giving runners ample time to prepare for the race while contributing positively to their university community. Join us in celebrating this beloved tradition and making lasting memories with fellow participants as you navigate through one of Austin's most iconic settings. The Longhorn Run promises an unforgettable experience that combines physical challenge with a sense of camaraderie and purpose, all set against the backdrop of a world-renowned academic institution.

About Austin
Learn more about the host city, Austin.
Austin is a city of about 1,054,000 (2026) surpassing Fort Worth to become the 4th most populous city in Texas. It is on the southeast edge of the Hill Country region of Texas, making it the fourth-largest city in the state and the 11th-largest in the country. It is the capital of Texas and a college town, and also a center of an alternative culture away from the major cities on the US coasts, though the city is rapidly gentrifying with its rising popularity. Austin's attitude is commonly emblazoned about town on T-shirts and bumper stickers that read: "Keep Austin Weird." Austin is also marketed as the Live Music Capital of the World due to the large number of venues.
