Bellmore Junior Girl Scout Troop #933 invites you to join them in the inaugural "Log Off and Lace Up One-Mile Fun Walk and Run"!
Meet us at Randy Lane Park in South Bellmore for a fun morning on Screen Free Saturday! (Saturday, May 9th).
RACE BEGINS at 8:30 so arrive early to allow time to park and get settled! Music and pre-race festivities begin at 8am! Race Day Registrations begin at 8am!
An untimed one-mile walk/run will kick off at 8:30am, heading east on Randy Lane to Legion Street, then south on Legion, around the peninsula as it turns into Shore Road. The route will follow Shore Road heading north, turning right onto Randy Lane and finishing where the race began! We will have music and good times from 8am until 10am at Randy Lane Park, with pastries, snacks, coffee and drinks for sale. All proceeds will go toward helping to cover the costs of our inaugural event!
So, tell me more... what is this all about?!
Troop 933, made up of Shore Road School 5th graders, chose to put together this event as part of their Bronze Award project, one of the three highest honors that a Girl Scout can earn. The Bronze Award challenges girls to identify an issue they care about, learn more about it, and take lasting action to create change. After reflecting on what matters to them, the troop decided to tackle a topic that affects nearly everyone — our societies' over-reliance on screens!
We discovered Screen-Free Week, a global initiative that encourages individuals and families to unplug and reconnect - to take a break from screens and connect with others while enjoying time outdoors! The girls chose to bring this movement to our own community by organizing this one-mile walk/run on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Randy Lane Park.
Our goal is to inspire our community to get active, have fun together, and challenge everyone to take this day to try and step away from screens for the day!
