Celebrate the 250th Birthday of the United States of America at the
Last Stand 1776 Backyard Ultra
June 13th, 2026 Start Time: 700AM Midlothian, VA
This isn’t just another race — it’s a mission.
Join us June 13th, for a one-of-a-kind endurance challenge and celebration of freedom, sacrifice and the 250th birthday of the United States of America. There may be just a little insanity involved also.
Race proceeds go directly to support the mission of the Semper Fi Fund, providing urgently needed resources for wounded, ill, and injured service members, veterans and their families. That in itself is a purpose for your run!
What’s a Backyard Ultra?
It’s not about speed — it’s about grit, determination, strategy and mental fortitude.
The Backyard Ultra is a race format like no other.
Every hour, on the hour, runners head out for a 4.167‑mile loop. You have exactly one hour to finish. If you make it back in time, you earn the right to go again. If you don’t… your race is over.
And that’s the beauty of it—it’s your race to run. One loop or twenty, you choose your challenge. Any distance you want. Set a personal goal for miles run, hit a milestone, or go all in for the win — this format lets YOU choose your race beacuse it's your race to run however you want. There are no losers. Just some that may last a little longer.
This format tests every part of you—your legs, your mind, your will and your determination. The loop never changes. The clock never slows. The question is simple: can you dig deep enough to say “ONE MORE LOOP”? Whether your goal is 1 loop, 2, 3, 5, 10, or more, it’s your race to run and your goal to set— number of miles, number of loops, or a personal breakthrough. It's all up to you!
Ever wonder how far you can run in the Last Stand Backyard Ultra?

Race under the big Virginia sky on trails, over wooden bridges, around a lake, through beautiful scenery.
Test your body, mind, and spirit.
Be part of a community like no other. The camaraderie at a Backyard Ultra is incredible. You will have more people cheering you along than you could imagine. Other runners, support crews, spectators will be your best friends and greatest source of encouragement. We may be competitors, but for one day we are a big team of dedicated runners.
Backyard Ultras create a community unlike anything else in running.
Runners encouraging one another every step of the way
Support crews cheering and lifting spirits for every runner
Spectators cheering for every single loop finisher
You will forge new friendships with each passing loop
Run 1 loop and you’ll be met with cheers. Run 2, 3, 5, 10 or more, and the encouragement only grows. Every time you finish a loop, you’re welcomed back with support, energy, and belief. No judgment. No pressure. Only encouragement, every single loop.
Set your own goal. Run one loop, two, five ten or more. It's your race to run any way you like, any distance you choose. You may just end up catching the "Ultra Bug".
Every Runner Receives
A custom-designed race shirt and other goodies. This is a shirt you will proudly wear, not just stuff in a drawer somewhere. This isn’t just a run, it’s a tribute and a mission.
If you’re the one who keeps answering the bell when no one else does, you’ll earn more than bragging rights.
A cash prize awaits the Last Runner Standing.
But even more importantly, you’ll claim the coveted Sword of Honor—a symbol of grit, resilience, and the spirit of the Backyard Ultra. Only one runner will lift it.
How will you answer the call?
"One more loop."
