Registration for each month's event opens early in the cycle and typically sells out about a week before the race date. To secure your spot, online entry is required as on-site registration is not available due to Royal Parks regulations. The cost varies based on affiliation status: £7 for members of any athletics or running club registered with England Athletics, and £9 for unaffiliated runners.
The event takes place at 12:30 PM sharp, starting from the picturesque Boat House near Serpentine Lake. Participants are encouraged to gather by noon to familiarize themselves with the course layout and meet fellow competitors. Race numbers should be clearly displayed on race clothing throughout the run but can be removed upon crossing the finish line.
The 5K route adheres strictly to UK Athletics rules, ensuring a fair and competitive environment for all runners. The minimum age requirement is set at eleven years old, with a strict cut-off time of thirty-five minutes after which marshals will no longer direct traffic on the course or record results.
Safety is paramount during this event; as such, participants are advised against using headphones to ensure they can hear instructions from race officials and remain aware of their surroundings. Public facilities like toilets (payable via card only) are available near Bandstand for those who need them before starting.
While there are no changing or shower amenities provided at the Boat House, runners are encouraged to arrive dressed in full running gear. Personal items may be left close to the start area but must not obstruct pathways; participants are advised to use waterproof bags and label belongings accordingly as security is limited around these areas.
Hyde Park offers a variety of refreshment options nearby, including Serpentine Bar & Kitchen and several park kiosks. However, no water or other supplies will be provided at the race site itself.
Upon registration, runners must complete their medical information on the reverse side of their number for emergency contact purposes should they require assistance during the event. In case of serious incidents, details may also be shared with relevant authorities as part of standard reporting procedures.
Race results are published online through Serpentine Running and Triathlon Club’s website shortly after each race concludes. An annual league championship based on age-graded performances across six races throughout the year adds an element of competition for those looking to challenge themselves further within their respective categories.
