The Las Virgenes Canyon Ultra Trail Races (formerly the Ahmanson Ranch Trail Races) are a signature endurance event returning to the Victory Trailhead in West Hills, Los Angeles, on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Set within the rugged expanse of the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, the race is known for its punchy climbs and panoramic views of the San Fernando Valley. For the 2026 edition, organizers have introduced a 100K distance as a "redemption" challenge following the heavy rain of previous years. The event serves a broad spectrum of the running community, offering six different distances that utilize a repeating loop format designed for both logistical simplicity and spectator engagement.
| Race Distance | Start Time | Late Price | Pacer Policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100K / 84K | 6:00 AM | $200 / $175 | After loop 5 / 4 |
| 54K / 30K | 6:30 AM | $155 / $135 | After loop 3 (54K) |
| 12K | 7:30 AM | $105 | None |
| 6K | 7:45 AM | $85 | None |
West Hills is a residential neighborhood in the western San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, with a population of approximately 41,000 residents. The demographic profile is roughly 62% White (non-Hispanic), 14% Asian, 11% Hispanic or Latino, and 4% Black or African American. The median annual household income is approximately $112,000. Geographically, the Victory Trailhead provides access to 3,000 acres of rolling hills and valley oak savannah, which once served as a backdrop for classic Hollywood Westerns. In late April, Los Angeles typically experiences average highs of 23°C (73°F) and lows of 12°C (54°F). However, the canyon can trap heat during the midday hours, and the lack of shade on the ridge lines makes adequate hydration essential for those tackling the longer ultra distances.
The race is a cupless event, meaning all participants must carry their own bottles or hydration vests to use at the fully supported aid stations. While 30K and longer distances have access to drop bags at the trailhead, the 6K and 12K runs follow a more streamlined format with specific trail marking colors (pink for 6K and purple for 12K+). For the ultramarathoners, a strict 6:00 PM course cutoff is enforced, requiring 100K runners to start their final loop by 4:30 PM. Parking is available for a $3 cash fee in the lot for long-distance runners and volunteers, with free street parking available along Victory Boulevard for others. Registration managed by Anytime Runners closes on April 23, 2026, and includes post-race festivities with food, music, and recovery areas.

Learn more about the host city, Los Angeles.
Frank Lloyd Wright is said to have quipped, "Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles," a quote that has since been repeated both by those who love and hate L.A. The "City of Angels" is home to people who hail from all parts of the globe and an important center of culture, business, media, and international trade. However, it's most famous for being a major center of the world's television, motion picture, and music industry, which forms the base of the city's status and lures visitors for its show business history and celebrity culture. Visitors are also drawn to Los Angeles for its Mediterranean climate and numerous beaches, which gave birth to California's famed surf culture.
