The Lakako Lasterkaldia, or Course du Laka, is a mountain running race celebrating its 22nd edition on Sunday, April 19, 2026. Based in the village of Ossès (Ortzaize) in the heart of the Basque Country, the event follows a rigorous 22km circuit with 1,200 meters of positive elevation gain. The route leads runners to the summit of Mount Baigura, standing at 897 meters, which offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Landes region, and the Pyrenees chain. The event emphasizes mountain heritage and environmental protection, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Baigura Mendi Elkartea association for the preservation of the massif.

Ossès is a traditional Basque village located in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of southwestern France. The terrain is characteristic of the Lower Navarre province, featuring steep, grassy slopes and rocky ridges that require high physical endurance and technical descending skills. In mid-April, the weather in the Pyrenean foothills can be highly variable; average lows are around 7°C (45°F) while highs can reach 17°C (63°F). Cloud cover is frequent at the summit of Baigura, but clear days provide sightlines to landmark peaks such as La Rhune and Artzamendi. The trails are often damp or muddy during the spring, adding a layer of difficulty to the 1,200m climb.
Registration for the trail race is available online, while the accompanying hike is open for on-site sign-ups. Runners must provide a valid FFA license or a Parcours Prévention Santé (PPS) certificate to compete in the timed event. To promote sustainability, the race is strictly eco-friendly; aid stations are provided every 4km, but no disposable cups are used, requiring all participants to carry their own reusable containers. The local community is deeply involved, with the Mendi Alde hotel offering discounts for traveling athletes. Every finisher receives a participant gift, and facilities such as showers and restrooms are available at the "Mur à Gauche" (Basque pelota court) which serves as the race headquarters.
