Kalmar Backyard Ultra

The Kalmar Backyard Ultra is an "original" format endurance race scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at First Camp Stensö in Kalmar, Sweden. Participants run a 6,706-meter loop every hour on the hour; those who fail to complete the loop within sixty minutes are eliminated. The competition continues until only one runner remains to complete a final solo lap, making them the winner. The specific lap distance is designed so that 24 laps equal exactly 100 miles, though the event is open to runners of all levels, with medals awarded to anyone completing at least one circuit.

Kalmar is a historic city in southeastern Sweden and the capital of Kalmar County, situated on the Baltic Sea with a population of approximately 41,000 residents. Geographically, the race takes place on the Stensö peninsula, a scenic nature area characterized by coastal forests and well-maintained exercise trails. While the Baltic breeze can add a chill, the trail remains mostly protected by trees, transitioning to a floodlit track during the night hours for safety.

The event is organized by Högby IF and features comprehensive support for ultrarunners, including light food and Umara sports drinks served between every start. Registration via the official portal is available until April 11, with late registration options continuing through race morning at a higher fee.
