Homeboy 5K Run/Walk

The Homeboy 5K Run/Walk returns to Los Angeles on September 19th, 2026, through historic Downtown LA. This year marks the event's 17th edition, with thousands of participants expected.
Race morning begins outside the Chinatown headquarters of Homeboy Industries, where a festive atmosphere sets in early. The streets buzz with energy as families and friends gather to support one another before setting off on this five-kilometer journey through downtown LA’s vibrant neighborhoods. Afterward, everyone converges for a street celebration filled with music, art, and local vendors.
This event has been running strong since 2010, supporting Homeboy's mission by providing training and support to formerly gang-involved individuals and previously incarcerated people, helping them reintegrate into the community. Over the years, it has grown from its initial modest start to a beloved tradition in LA’s sporting calendar, attracting more than five thousand participants annually.
The course covers a hard and dry surface with a total distance of 5 kilometers for both adults and kids. The route winds through historic downtown LA, offering runners and walkers scenic views and the chance to connect with local communities. For those who prefer it from afar, there’s also a virtual option available.
On race morning, temperatures hover around an average of 23.8°C, feeling much like that due to low humidity at just 69.1%. A gentle breeze with typical speeds of about 7.3 km/h can be expected, and the sun shines for over ten hours, providing ample light conditions.
The Homeboy 5K Run/Walk offers two race options: a standard 5 kilometers or a virtual run covering the same distance. The Kids Run is available as well, with distances varying to suit younger participants. Fees are $55.50 for adults and $71.70 for the virtual option, while kids can join in at just $23.10.
Registration takes place online via https://raceroster.com/events/2026/115485/homeboy-5k-runwalk by August 31st. Bibs are available for pickup on September 18th from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Homeboy Industries' Chinatown location, with participants required to bring photo ID.
