Hell Hole Half

Step into the wilds of Francis Marion National Forest for an unforgettable half marathon experience: The Hell Hole Half. Set for October 11, 2026, this race offers runners a unique and rugged journey along Hell Hole Road.
The course is straightforward yet challenging, stretching over approximately 13.1 miles in a simple out-and-back format. Participants will run roughly six and a half miles down the gravel road before turning around to complete their return trip within a three-hour window. The terrain is uncomplicated—no turns or complex markings—but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Towering trees, dense forest scenery, and the occasional reflective thought of “Why did I sign up for this?” accompany runners throughout.
The race starts at 8:00 AM sharp with all participants meeting at the start/finish line located in Francis Marion National Forest (coordinates: 33.17879317654395, -79.77559402883575). Packet pick-up is available on race morning from 7 to 7:30 AM at the same location.
While water will be provided at the turnaround point and hot dogs along with chips and soda await runners upon their return, participants are encouraged to carry any additional snacks they might need during their journey. The simplicity of this event means it’s up to each runner to plan for hydration and nutrition needs throughout the race.
With only 50 spots available, early registration is highly recommended as spaces will fill quickly. This inaugural edition promises an intimate atmosphere where runners can truly connect with nature while pushing themselves along a challenging yet rewarding course. After crossing the finish line, participants will be greeted by swag from past races at an on-site table where they can select their prizes before claiming awards if they’ve secured top male or female finishes.
