Hel n Back

Nestled within the scenic landscapes of Helensburgh, the Hel n Back Trail Race invites runners to experience an exhilarating journey through rugged terrain and stunning vistas. The race begins promptly at 11am from Hermitage Academy, following a brief safety briefing at 10:50am.
The route features a mix of well-maintained trails and land rover tracks, with only short stretches on tarred pavement near the start and finish lines, as well as around halfway through. The race is known for its challenging yet rewarding ascent and descent sections that showcase the area's varied topography.
Runners can expect to tackle four distinct climbs throughout the course, each offering unique challenges. Notably, the final climb winds steeply but briefly through a dense forest before giving way to an exhilarating downhill stretch starting around 8 kilometers from the finish line. This section provides runners with a much-needed respite as they navigate down towards the end.
The race concludes back at Hermitage Academy, where participants are greeted by enthusiastic volunteers and entertained with fun prizes for their efforts. The event's supportive atmosphere and scenic setting make it an unforgettable experience for trail running enthusiasts.
Getting to the start line is convenient, with a large free car park available on-site at Hermitage Academy. However, due to other activities in the area, parking can fill up quickly, so arriving early is recommended. Alternately, Craigendoran train station offers easy access within just five minutes’ walk.
