About the Event

The Haven Half Marathon course spans 13 miles of Pilot Knob Trail Head on Hwy 44 and Placerville Rd., offering a total elevation gain of 1,948 feet. The route is marked clearly with signs indicating the distance at various points, ensuring runners stay on track even in the toughest moments. Notable features include steep ascents that challenge your strength but also rewarding downhill stretches where speed can be gained.
The Haven 30k course covers a more ambitious 18.6 miles, providing an elevation gain of 2,700 feet over its challenging terrain. This route takes runners through some of the most beautiful and rugged parts of Pennington County, promising both physical and mental challenges that will test your limits.
The Haven 10k (6.2 miles) offers a more manageable but still scenic option starting at Hisega Lodge for those looking to enjoy the race without committing too much time or distance. This out-and-back course is perfect for runners of all skill levels, ensuring everyone can experience the community spirit that makes this event so special.

To register, visit . Early registration fees are as follows: Haven Half Marathon $65 (BHRC members get a discount), Haven 30K $65, and Haven 10k $50. Entries for 16 and under are free but no swag is included.
Bib pickup will be available at the parking/shuttle area on race day when you check in. Be sure to arrive early to get your gear ready for the race! For those using public transportation, shuttles from Tomaha Trail in Hisega can drop you off at either start or finish line locations.
The weather forecast predicts an average temperature of 23°C with a comfortable feels-like factor around that mark. Expect some light humidity and minimal rainfall (1.4mm), making the Hard and Dry trail surface ideal for running, but be prepared for UV Index levels reaching Very High at times. Pennington County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 109,222, making it the second most populous county in South Dakota, and was estimated to be 116,792 in 2025. Its county seat is Rapid City. The county was created on January 11, 1875, and was organized on April 19, 1877. It is named for John L. Pennington, fifth Governor of Dakota Territory, who held office in 1875 when the county was formed. Pennington County is included in the Rapid City metropolitan statistical area. It is also the location of Mount Rushmore.
