Great 5k and Paddlefest

The Great 5k and Paddlefest returns to Shreveport, Louisiana on October 3rd, offering a unique blend of endurance running and water sports for all ages. This annual event takes place at the picturesque Fox Creek Farms in Shreveport’s Ellerbe Road neighborhood, where participants can enjoy both land and lake adventures amidst the tranquil scenery.
As runners set off along the winding paths of Fox Creek Farms on this crisp autumn morning, they will find themselves enveloped by a serene landscape. The fall foliage begins to paint the trees with hues of amber and gold, casting a warm light over the racecourse as participants make their way through the scenic trails. A gentle breeze carries hints of fallen leaves and distant wildlife sounds, creating an immersive experience that feels both invigorating and nostalgic.
The Great 5k and Paddlefest has been a cornerstone event in Shreveport for several years now, raising funds for The Arc Caddo-Bossier’s GREAT Program which supports children, teens, and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted services. This year marks another milestone as the program continues to positively impact local communities by providing therapeutic programs at schools, hospitals, private lessons, and summer camps.
The 5k course itself is a looped route that winds around Fox Creek Farms’ sprawling grounds, featuring mostly hard-surfaced trails with some grassy patches along the way. Markers are clearly placed every kilometer to help runners pace themselves as they navigate through varied terrain. The Paddlefest portion follows shortly after, starting from the lakeside where participants can launch their paddleboards or kayaks for a two-mile journey across calm waters.
For both races, start and finish lines are located near the main pavilion area at Fox Creek Farms. Aid stations with water bottles will be strategically placed every kilometer to keep runners hydrated throughout their run. The elevation profile is relatively flat but includes gentle ups and downs that reflect natural terrain changes within the park.
Given typical weather patterns in Shreveport during October, participants should expect temperatures around 21-27 degrees Celsius. While there’s a low chance of rain with only about 1.7mm expected on race day, humidity levels might feel slightly higher at approximately 63%. The dry and hard trail conditions will provide solid footing for runners while paddlers can take advantage of the calm waters.

The Great 5k and Paddlefest offers a variety of entry options: $50.00 for both races, $35.00 just for the 5K run, or $35.00 exclusively for the paddle portion. Early registration discounts apply until September 19th, with prices increasing slightly thereafter but still available up to race day.
Participants can pick up their packets at Sportspectrum on Thursday and Friday before the event during specified times. On Saturday morning from 7:00-7:45 am, packet pickup will also be available at Fox Creek Farms itself. To ensure a proper fit for your race shirt and other essentials, please register by September 18th.
The Great Post Race Party is included with each entry fee offering live music, food samples courtesy of Ki’ Mexico, drawings, door prizes, and activities suitable for all ages. Join us at Fox Creek Farms after the races to celebrate this year's accomplishments together as a community.
