On August 30, 2026, the Saint-Maurice-de-Gourdans Canoe and Kayak Club invites teams of two to embark on an exhilarating multisport adventure through the picturesque landscape of the Ain plain. This event combines various disciplines that showcase both natural beauty and physical prowess.
The day kicks off with a scenic VTT (mountain biking) course, which winds along agricultural paths bordering the River Ain and meanders across the lush plains. Riders will experience diverse terrain as they pedal through fields and forests, taking in panoramic views of rolling hills and serene waterways.
After the bike ride, participants transition to their kayaks for a thrilling descent down the River Ain. This section tests teamwork and paddling skills while offering breathtaking vistas along the riverbanks. The current provides an added challenge but also propels teams forward as they navigate twists and turns in this picturesque setting.
Once out of the water, athletes will face another leg of the race on foot with a trail run through the Riveraine sector and Confluence Ain Rhône area. Here, runners encounter varied terrain that includes both flat stretches and more challenging ascents. The route is lined with lush vegetation and historic landmarks, providing an engaging backdrop for this part of the event.
The final challenge before crossing the finish line involves a short but intense parcours du combattant (obstacle course), designed to test agility and strength in equal measure. This segment adds excitement and variety to what has already been a multi-faceted day of competition.
Three circuits are available for participants, each offering its own unique set of challenges:
- Gourdathlon: A full marathon experience covering 52 kilometers with approximately +154 meters of elevation gain over an estimated duration of four to six hours.

- Challenge Ain Rhône: An intermediate option spanning 25.5 kilometers and featuring around +73 meters in elevation, completed typically within two to three hours.
- Petit Gourdathlon: A more accessible route at 13.5 kilometers long with about +54 meters of total ascent, suitable for those looking for a shorter but still engaging day out on the course, expected to take one to two hours.
This event is not just a race; it's an immersive experience that highlights the natural beauty and rich history of Saint-Maurice-de-Gourdans. Teams will have plenty of opportunities to appreciate the serene landscapes while pushing their limits in this unique multisport adventure.
Participants are encouraged to explore the region beyond the race, with local amenities providing a perfect setting for relaxation and recovery after an intense day on the course.
