Glow in the Park 5K

On October 17th, Fisher River Park in Dobson, North Carolina, transforms into a glowing wonderland for the Fourth Annual Glow in the Park 5K. Surry Country Parks and Recreation and Surry County Health and Nutrition Center are teaming up to create an unforgettable evening of fun and fitness.
The event kicks off at 4:00 PM with a variety of family-friendly activities, including inflatable games, hayrides, and pumpkin carving. As the sun sets, participants can enjoy live music from Runaway Train in the park's amphitheater from 7:15 PM to 9:00 PM.
The race itself starts at 7:30 PM under a canopy of blacklights illuminating the trails with vibrant glow paint and balloons. Participants are encouraged to adorn themselves with glow sticks, face paint, and any other glowing accessories for an extra festive touch. The event is designed not only as a competitive run but also as a community gathering where runners can enjoy the scenic beauty of Fisher River Park by night.
Registration fees include a $20 entry that guarantees a glow-in-the-dark t-shirt if you sign up before October 1st. After this date, shirts are available on a first-come-first-served basis. The race is timed using chip technology to ensure accurate results for all participants.
The event culminates with awards presented at 8:15 PM recognizing the top three finishers in six different age divisions and categories. All runners receive custom medals upon completing their run, adding an extra layer of personal achievement to this unique experience.
Post-race festivities include free snacks, s'mores around bonfires, additional games, and a chance to mingle with fellow participants under the starry night sky until late into the evening. The park's facilities will be bustling with excitement as families gather for a memorable autumn adventure in one of North Carolina’s most picturesque settings.
Don't miss out on this year's new addition: a costume contest! Participants are invited to dress up in their wildest and brightest outfits, competing in two age divisions (12 & under and 12+). Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes at 6:00 PM before the race begins.
