Ghost of the Miller's Boy Trail event

Immerse yourself in the eerie ambiance of Thaxted for the Ghost of the Miller’s Boy Trail Run, an enchanting 10km night-time adventure that unfolds around The Maypole PH. This self-navigated trail race takes place midweek and invites both walkers and runners to explore the mystical terrain under moonlight.
Participants will receive a detailed route description on the day rather than relying on marked paths or marshals; therefore, carrying your own lighting equipment is essential for safe navigation through unlit trails. The course weaves through footpaths, bridleways, and tracks around Thaxted, with brief stretches along quiet roads. A mobile phone is mandatory to ensure safety during this nocturnal escapade.
Entry fees are £12 for affiliated runners and £14 for non-affiliated participants, plus a 50p booking fee. Each entry includes a drinks voucher redeemable at The Maypole from a selection of beverages or up to a value of £4.50. All proceeds benefit the ongoing restoration efforts of John Webb’s Windmill (John Webbs Windmill CIO).
The event is scheduled for nightfall, promising an atmospheric journey through Thaxted's winding paths and historic landmarks. As you make your way around the mill, keep an eye out for any spectral encounters; local lore suggests that the windmill houses at least one ghostly presence, including a restless young boy who may reveal himself to runners as they pass by.
