FVO SOL 5 - Edinchip

About the Event

The Lochearnhead Race is set amidst the stunning landscapes of Scotland, offering runners an unforgettable experience. The race begins at Edinchip Estate where participants will assemble after walking 2 kilometers from the designated parking area located near Lochearnhead on the A85 road close to its junction with the A84.
For those opting for public transport, Ember buses provide convenient service stopping right in Lochearnhead village, just a short walk away from the race start. The bus routes connect the town to major cities like Edinburgh and Oban, making it easy for visitors to reach this picturesque location without relying on personal vehicles.
Parking is available at no additional cost beyond a £1 charge per car, payable upon arrival. However, there are no restrooms provided in the parking area; runners will need to make their way 350 meters into Lochearnhead village where public toilets can be found for use before or after the race.
The event itself features a full range of Scottish Orienteering League (SOL) courses tailored to various skill levels. Organized by Rob Truswell from FVO, and with course planning support from Vicky Thornton and Heather Fellbaum, both also part of FVO, this race is meticulously designed for an engaging challenge.
Runners can expect a mix of terrain as they navigate through the fields near Edinchip Estate, making use of marked routes to ensure everyone stays on track. The event highlights include the scenic backdrop of rural Scotland and the chance to test your orienteering skills in a well-organized environment guided by experienced officials such as Dave Robertson from CLYDE who oversees race control.
This event promises not only an athletic challenge but also a rewarding exploration into the beauty and charm of Scottish countryside, making it a must for both seasoned competitors and newcomers alike.

Scenic view of

Lochearnhead is a village in Perth and Kinross, with a population of about 250. As the name implies it's at the top end of Loch Earn, at a junction of roads into the Highlands. It's a good base for exploring the eastern portion of Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park, which is cut off by mountains from its more touristy central parts.
