Prepare to face the ultimate test of human will at Fuego y Agua 2026, returning to the legendary Isla de Ometepe, Nicaragua, from March 6–8. This is not just an ultramarathon; it is an elemental confrontation with two of nature’s most imposing monuments: the towering Volcán Concepción (Fire) and the cloud-shrouded Volcán Maderas (Water). Designed for the most resilient trail runners on earth, this series offers a raw, unfiltered journey through technical jungle single-tracks, deep volcanic mud, and the searing tropical heat of Central America.
The 2026 edition introduces a brutal new test of pure climbing power: the Vertical K, a straight-up-the-mountain ascent of Volcán Concepción that will push even the world’s best climbers to their limit. For the distance-obsessed, the 100K flagship race returns with a staggering 20,000ft (6,000m+) of elevation gain across both peaks. Those seeking a shorter—but no less intense—challenge can choose from the 50K Ultra, the 28K technical trail, or the 14K sprint. Each distance is a gateway to the mythical landscape of Ometepe, where meticulous training is the only thing standing between you and the elemental forces of the island.
Fuego y Agua is a rite of passage for the serious trail running community. It is a weekend where the finish line represents more than a medal; it signifies survival and triumph over a primal, unforgiving environment. If you are ready to forge your legacy one volcanic step at a time, the twin peaks are waiting. Are you ready to meet the fire and the water?

Learn more about the host city, Isla de Ometepe.
Isla de Ometepe's name is derived from the Nahuatl words ome (two) and tepetl (mountain), meaning two mountains. An island in Lake Nicaragua in the country of Nicaragua, Ometepe is one of the country's must-see places. This island composed of twin volcanoes provides a remote escape in the middle of Lago de Nicaragua - a tourist slogan often found on T-shirts for the island is "oasis of peace". There are two towns along with a few smaller settlements on the island, along with a number of small coffee plantations.
