The Flag Day 5K takes place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 4:00 PM EDT at Cashman Park on Sally Snyder Way in Newburyport, Massachusetts. This 15th annual USATF-certified 5K walk or run honors 1st LT Derek Hines and supports Massachusetts soldiers and their families who have incurred serious, career-ending, and life-altering injuries on active duty.

Race Day Packet Pick-Up: June 13, 2:00-3:30 PM at Cashman Park.
Speaking Program: 3:20 PM.
Kids Fun Run: 3:05 PM.
Post-Race Party: Begins at 4:15 PM (includes post-race beer for ages 21+).

Active Duty Military: Free registration.

Swag, Awards & Community Impact:

Honoring 1st LT Derek Hines: 2003 graduate of the United States Military Academy, died September 1, 2005, in Baylough, Afghanistan. Even after being fatally shot, he continued to fire at insurgents — demonstrating fortitude in everything he did.
Foundation Mission: The 1st Lieutenant Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund provides financial assistance for Massachusetts soldiers and their families who have incurred serious, career-ending, and life-altering injuries while on active duty.
15th Annual Event: A long-standing tradition in Newburyport supporting veterans and active duty service members.
Inclusive Participation: Walk or run — all paces welcome. Virtual option available for those unable to attend in person.
Kids Fun Run: Encouraging youth participation and family involvement.
Community Support: Decorated houses, team fundraising, and donor recognition throughout the event.
USATF Certified: Official certified 5K course.
Post-Race Celebration: Party with beer for adults 21+.
