Firewater Ultra

The Firewater Ultra returns to Greenback, Tennessee on October 24th, featuring a variety of challenging distances along the East Lakeshore Trail near Tellico Reservoir. This event has been a staple in Tennessee for over a decade, with this being its twelfth consecutive year. Participants can choose from four main events: the Firewater 100K and 50K runs, as well as relay options and the newer Ruck race.
The East Lakeshore Trail provides runners with scenic views of Tellico Reservoir, winding through diverse terrain that includes hills and flat stretches. The trail conditions are firm yet slightly soft underfoot, making it a runnable but challenging route for endurance athletes. On race morning, participants can expect to gather at the starting point on the southern end of the trail near Wildcat Pointe Trailhead (#10). Temperatures typically range from 12°C to 22°C with average humidity around 71%, and runners should be prepared for a chance of light rain.
Firewater Ultra celebrates its rich tradition each year by honoring local conservation efforts through partnerships with The Watershed Association of the Tellico Reservoir (WATeR). Over eleven years, it has grown from being Tennessee's first trail-based ultra event to attracting hundreds of participants annually. For 2026, organizers are reintroducing soft hoodie sweatshirts for runners who register by October 16th.
The Firewater Ultra offers a range of distances on its course: the grueling 100K run covering the entire East Lakeshore Trail out and back; the more moderate 50K that starts at the northern end, turning around mid-way before heading south to finish near Wildcat Pointe (#10). Additionally, there's a relay option for teams looking to share the distance equally or in halves. The newest addition is the Ruck race, which runs half of the 50K route back towards the finish line while carrying extra weight.
