Firecracker 5K and Family Fun Run

The Firecracker 5K and Family Fun Run returns to Wilmington, Massachusetts on June 25th as part of our Sixth Annual celebration during the 44th annual Fun on the Fourth Celebration.
This race begins at the heart of downtown Wilmington Town Common. The park is bustling with activity in late June; families gather under shade trees while food vendors set up stalls along the perimeter. On race morning, runners will find a tranquil setting as participants prepare for their five-kilometer journey through this vibrant neighborhood. The course stretches from the common to nearby streets and back again, winding past historic buildings and green spaces that offer occasional cool breezes.
The Firecracker 5K has been a cornerstone of our community since its inception in 2021; it's now firmly rooted as a tradition for locals and visitors alike. In the span of just five years, we've seen thousands join us to support local charities, with participant numbers growing steadily each year. This event not only unites residents but also highlights Wilmington’s commitment to fostering community spirit.
The Firecracker 5K course takes runners through firm, slightly soft terrain that feels like a cushioned runway for the first few miles before becoming more challenging towards the finish line. With its layout featuring multiple loops, participants can enjoy views of downtown while staying on an even path with minimal elevation changes and no aid stations needed.
On race day, expect temperatures in the mid to upper 20s Celsius; it will feel comfortable but still warm enough for a brisk pace. A light breeze from the west carries hints of the upcoming summer season, making for pleasant running conditions. Precipitation is low with only minimal rainfall expected, ensuring clear skies and plenty of sunshine.
