About the Event

The May long weekend simply wouldn’t feel complete without one of Canada’s oldest running traditions — the iconic 10 Mile Road Race. This historic event, first held in 1910, has grown into a cherished celebration of community, endurance, and athletic spirit. More than a century ago, the Fort William Daily Times-Journal introduced the idea of an annual race designed to promote “healthy and clean sport” in the region. The course stretched 10 miles and 52 yards through the streets of Fort William and Port Arthur, drawing crowds who lined the entire route to cheer on the athletes. The very first champion, J.E. Edwards of Port Arthur, crossed the finish line in an impressive 57 minutes, finishing well ahead of his nearest competitor — and setting the tone for the decades of excitement that followed. 2026 Edition – Carrying the Tradition Forward This year, the legacy continues on May 18, 2026. Runners will once again gather to honour more than 115 years of history, passion, and community pride. Whether you're aiming for a fast time or simply soaking in the atmosphere of a race steeped in tradition, the 10 Mile Road Race promises another unforgettable chapter in its long-standing story. Lace up and be part of a Canadian classic.
