The 4th annual FIR 5K, sponsored by Spectrum Health, is set to take place once again as part of the Berkshire Running Foundation's Fitness In Recovery (FIR) program. This year’s event aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals looking to incorporate fitness into their lives while addressing various recovery challenges. Spectrum Health staff and clients have collaborated extensively to create this initiative, offering a free and sober space where anyone can begin or continue on their journey towards better health and well-being. Whether you are recovering from substance abuse, dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, food issues, or supporting someone else through their recovery process, the FIR program welcomes everyone. The Berkshire Running Foundation is proud to partner with local healthcare facilities and community centers to offer a comprehensive six-week training program designed to help participants complete a 5K run. Each participant will be paired with an experienced coach who will guide them throughout the course of the program. This approach not only ensures that individuals receive personalized support but also encourages those who have completed the initial phase to become coaches themselves, fostering a sense of community and continuity. The Lemme Run Program forms the backbone of this initiative, providing a structured framework for physical improvement alongside social engagement. By integrating exercise into recovery plans, participants experience significant benefits in both their mental and physical health. The program's success has been recognized globally as an effective template that enhances the overall effectiveness of recovery efforts through regular fitness activities. Join us at the FIR 5K to celebrate progress, support one another, and embrace a healthier future. The event promises not only a rewarding run but also a chance for individuals to connect with like-minded people who share similar goals. Whether you are an experienced runner or just starting your journey towards recovery through fitness, this event offers the perfect blend of encouragement and community spirit.
