Exeter Harriers hosts friendly evening competitions on the last Tuesday of each month during the Track and Field season. These events offer a dynamic schedule featuring various track and field disciplines that rotate throughout the series, ensuring athletes experience different challenges every time they compete.
Children over 8 years old are warmly invited to participate in these open competitions regardless of their skill level. The officials provide guidance to ensure young competitors understand how each event works, making it an inclusive environment for all ages.
A special highlight is the Under-10 Triathlon, which includes a run, jump, and throw component. This unique competition covers fundamental athletics disciplines, providing younger participants with a well-rounded introduction to track and field events. In September, this triathlon expands into a quadrathlon format, adding an additional event for even more variety.
The BMC Races take place at 8:00 PM from April through August in the open meetings. These races are organized by British Masters Athletics (BMC) and entry details can be found on their website. Age groups adhere to specific dates as of August 31, 2026, with new age categories introduced for U10, U12, U14, U18 - U20, while seniors retain the previous classification.
Competitors are limited to participating in up to three events per night. Under-10s automatically compete in all components of their designated triathlon or quadrathlon. For September's open competition, there is a specific restriction for U12 and U14 participants who cannot enter both 800m and the one-mile race.
Track races are typically graded where possible to accommodate athletes across different levels. Field events offer three trials for younger age groups (U10, U12 & U14) while older competitors have four trial opportunities starting from U16 onwards. Late entries cannot be accommodated but participants can modify or transfer their entry up until the deadline.
Volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring these competitions run smoothly by assisting qualified officials with various tasks such as maintaining equipment, measuring distances for long jumps and high jump adjustments. Anyone interested in volunteering should contact
