Estonian Wilderness Marathon

Starting from Albu, a municipality celebrated for its presence in Estonian author Tammsaare’s renowned novel "Truth and Justice," the race culminates within the protected expanse of Kõrvemaa Landscape Conservation Area near Aegviidu.
This marathon is an expedition through untouched natural beauty, where runners must rely on their resilience to conquer challenging terrain. The course features a mix of narrow forest trails and dirt roads, with some sections devoid of clear paths that test both endurance and determination. Despite Estonia's generally gentle elevations, the route includes hills sculpted by ancient glacial movements.
The Kodru and Kakerdaja bogs offer particularly scenic moments as runners traverse boardwalks through these unique wetland environments. The trail is well-marked with ribbons, arrows, and signs along hiking paths to guide participants throughout their journey. With a 7.5-hour time limit, this marathon caters not only to runners but also to fast hikers who seek an immersive experience of Estonia's natural landscapes. For those preferring shorter distances, there are two alternatives: a 27.5 km trail that begins at Mõnuvere and winds through Kakerdaja bog before reaching Aegviidu, and a 15 km route starting from Valgehobusemäe and also finishing in the conservation area.
