ESSEX OPEN WATER SWIMS 2027

Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of Hanningfield Waterside Park on Saturday, 15th May 2027 for an unforgettable open-water swim. Organized by Wild Deer Events, this unique opportunity takes place at Hanningfield Reservoir, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) nestled between Billericay and Chelmsford.
The reservoir's tranquil setting offers expansive views across its vast expanse, set amidst mature woodlands that provide an idyllic backdrop for swimmers. Participants can enjoy the rare privilege of swimming in this protected area while being surrounded by nature’s splendor. The park also features scenic walking trails, bird hides, and a café, making it perfect not just for competitors but also for spectators.
The event offers two distances: a 750m swim and an option to complete two laps for a total of 1,500 meters. Both courses are clearly marked with safety boats patrolling the waters and first aid readily available at the shore.
Swimmers have the flexibility to choose whether or not to wear wetsuits; while water temperatures might be warm enough to swim without one, wearing a wetsuit is recommended for added comfort and buoyancy—especially beneficial for less experienced swimmers.
Competitors will benefit from Live Chip Timing provided by Timing Up North. Upon crossing the finish line, all participants will receive a bespoke event metal medal, Wild Deer merchandise, and refreshments including drinks and snacks to refuel after their swim.

Free parking is provided on-site for all attendees. Additionally, due to the ecological sensitivity of Hanningfield Reservoir as an SSSI, dogs are not permitted around the reservoir area.
