About the Event

Devil's Gulch returns to Wenatchee, Washington on July 11th, promising a blend of breathtaking views and challenging terrain for runners from across the country. This year’s event will feature three distinct race distances: the grueling Devil's Gulch 100 Miler, the equally demanding but more manageable Devil's Gulch 50 Miler, and the scenic half-marathon route that still offers a taste of the Cascades' rugged beauty.
The race takes place in the heart of Washington’s eastern Cascades, where Ponderosa pine forests and rocky gulches define the landscape. As runners navigate through this terrain, they are treated to panoramic views stretching from the Enchantment Plateau to iconic volcanic peaks. The course weaves along high ridgelines offering unbroken vistas before descending into unique geological formations with hoodoos dotting the path. Each mile brings a new challenge and vista, blending steep single-track trails with smoother flowing sections that allow runners to fly through the forest.
Devil's Gulch has become an integral part of Wenatchee’s summer traditions for over a decade, attracting hundreds of participants who come not just for the race but also to support local causes. The 100 Miler is known as one of the toughest ultramarathons in the region, with its generous cutoff times allowing runners the flexibility to tackle this immense challenge at their own pace. Top finishers receive well-deserved awards and recognition, while all participants are invited back to Mission Ridge Ski and Snowboard Resort for a post-race celebration featuring food, drinks, and camaraderie.
The course for the 100 Miler takes runners on an epic loop around Mission Peak and Mt. Lillian, following single-track trails and forest service roads that traverse diverse elevations and terrains. With over twenty thousand feet of elevation gain in a single day, this race is not for the faint-hearted but offers generous time allowances to complete each segment at a comfortable pace. The 50 Miler provides runners with a condensed version of these challenges, making it an equally daunting yet rewarding experience.
As July approaches and temperatures rise across Wenatchee’s eastern Cascades, participants can expect warm days typical for this region in early summer. With average temperatures around 26 degrees Celsius (79°F), the race will be hot but also offers clear skies with only minimal chances of precipitation. Runners should prepare for a dry trail surface that is hard underfoot and may require careful navigation due to heat.
