Dartmoor In A Day 2026

About the Event

Dartmoor In A Day invites runners and walkers alike to explore the rugged beauty of Dartmoor National Park. This unique challenge offers two options: a 50km ultra race that spans from Okehampton through Postbridge, ending in Ivybridge, or a more manageable but equally scenic 30km trek starting at Postbridge.
The route traverses some of Dartmoor’s most iconic landmarks and natural beauty spots. Participants will meander along the East Okement valley, scaling Hangingstone Hill for panoramic views, crossing stepping stones over the West Dart River, and navigating Ryder's Hill with its historic clapper bridge. The course also takes you past Bellever Tor and through the serene Erme Valley before finishing at Ivybridge Community College.
Both routes are almost entirely off-road, winding across vast stretches of open moorland that challenge even seasoned adventurers. While the 30km option is suitable for anyone with a decent fitness level, the full 50km course demands endurance and resilience, making it an ideal test for serious competitors or those looking to push their limits.
The event provides detailed maps via Outdoor Active app as well as traditional OL28 Dartmoor (1:25,000) or BMC Dartmoor (1:40,000) paper maps. A GPS file is also available upon request for tech-savvy participants who prefer to track their journey digitally.
Participants are supported by experienced Mountain Leaders throughout the course. These knowledgeable guides act as mobile marshals and offer assistance with navigation when needed. They provide first aid in remote areas of the route, ensuring safety without compromising on adventure.
Refreshment checkpoints await at Postbridge and Combestone Tor along both routes, offering essential sustenance for those pushing through challenging terrain. The event concludes at Ivybridge Community College where participants can enjoy more food and drinks upon arrival.
For added convenience, a coach shuttle service is available to transport athletes from the finish line back to their starting point in Okehampton or Postbridge. This optional extra helps alleviate logistical concerns on race day.
Spaces are limited for this event, so early registration is recommended. The 50km ultra typically starts around dawn at approximately 6am, while the 30km challenge begins later at 9am from Ivybridge Community College.
Dartmoor In A Day welcomes young participants aged under 18 but requires them to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout their journey. This event also offers the option to purchase XCover insurance for those concerned about missing out due to unforeseen circumstances, ensuring peace of mind before race day.
This is an opportunity not just to compete against others but to immerse oneself in one of Britain’s most captivating landscapes while testing personal limits and enjoying camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts.
