Da Piazza a Piazza

The "Da Piazza a Piazza" (DPAP) is a historic non-competitive mountain trek organized by the Prato section of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, this endurance event leads participants through the scenic landscapes surrounding the Bisenzio River valley. Scheduled for Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026, the journey is a deep-rooted tradition for the local hiking and trail running community.

The event is designed as a two-day trek through the province of Prato. Registration for the 2026 edition officially opened on February 5, and remains accessible to both CAI members and the general public through the Endu portal.

The route is characterized by the rugged and verdant terrain of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Participants navigate a network of CAI-maintained trails that overlook the Bisenzio River, featuring significant elevation changes and technical mountain footing. In early May, the climate in the Prato hills is generally mild, with average daytime temperatures of 20°C, though ridges can be subject to rapid weather shifts and morning fog. The trails vary from soft woodland paths to rocky sections along the Apennine ridge, requiring sturdy footwear and physical preparation for sustained effort over two days.

Due to the high cardiovascular demand of the terrain, the organization maintains strict medical standards. All participants must provide a valid medical certificate to finalize their registration. Acceptable documents include either a competitive sports medical certificate (Table B) or a non-competitive certificate specifically indicating high cardiovascular commitment, which must include an ECG performed under stress. Registration is not considered valid until these safety requirements are met and verified by the CAI Emilio Bertini section.

The event is a collaborative effort involving various local partners and volunteers from the CAI. Throughout the weekend, the organization provides support and information through multiple social channels, including Telegram and Instagram, to ensure participants stay updated on trail conditions.
