This event takes place within the UNESCO Mudeungsan Geopark, a site of global geological significance known for its unique columnar joints and diverse ecosystem. Gwangju is the sixth-largest city in South Korea with a population of approximately 1.4 million. The city is a historical and political hub, often referred to as the "City of Light," and the Mudeungsan ridge serves as its most iconic natural landmark. The race is co-hosted by CUK Sports and the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Korea Leukemia and Childhood Cancer Association, with proceeds supporting children battling leukemia.

Course Experience and Safety

The race begins and ends at the Chosun University campus, leading runners directly into the rugged terrain of Mudeungsan. The 51.8 km "Double Heart" course is particularly challenging, requiring participants to navigate significant elevation changes along mountain ridges. Due to the high-altitude environment, organizers enforce strict safety regulations; mandatory equipment must be carried at all times to mitigate risks of hypothermia, dehydration, and exhaustion. Participants are also bound by a "Leave No Trace" policy, as littering or damaging the UNESCO Geopark's natural features results in immediate disqualification.

Registration and Participant Logistics

Registration is open to both domestic and international participants, with various distance options to suit different skill levels. During sign-up, participants must provide their clothing size (ranging from 90 to 115) for official event gear. The refund policy is tiered: a full refund is available within 7 days of payment, 50% up to 30 days before the race (D-30), and no refunds thereafter. It is important to note that entries are non-transferable and cannot be carried over to future years. Participants are also strongly advised to secure personal injury insurance, as the organizers only provide on-site emergency stabilization and transport.
