The Coyote Trail Run is an endurance event scheduled for Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Cleburne State Park in Cleburne, Texas. Organized by Blaze Trails Running, the race features a primary 8-mile loop that challenges participants with technical terrain and significant elevation gain, ranging from 800 to 1,000 feet per lap. The event is designed to accommodate various skill levels, offering ultra-distances alongside shorter trail options. To maintain environmental standards, the race operates as a cupless event, requiring runners to carry their own hydration vessels. In the event of extreme weather or poor field conditions, a contingency plan is in place to move the race to the nearby Six-O Ranch.

Cleburne is the county seat of Johnson County, Texas, located approximately 30 miles south of Fort Worth. The city has a population of approximately 32,500 residents. The demographic profile of Cleburne is 54.8% White (Non-Hispanic), 35.6% Hispanic or Latino, 3.8% Black or African American, 0.7% Asian, and 4.2% from two or more races. The median annual household income in the city is roughly $58,500. Geographically, Cleburne State Park is situated at the edge of the Lampasas Cut Plain, a region of rugged limestone hills and dense cedar brakes that provide the steep climbs characteristic of the course. The climate in mid-April typically features average lows of 13°C (55°F) and highs of 25°C (77°F). While the spring weather is generally favorable, Northern Texas can experience sudden thunderstorms and high humidity, which may increase the technical difficulty of the limestone trails.
Registration for the 2026 event remains open until race day, though early sign-up is encouraged. The organizers implement a strict credit-only refund policy, offering 100% race credit for cancellations made more than 30 days in advance and 50% credit for those made at least two weeks prior. A unique aspect of the race is the volunteer incentive program, where participants can earn credits for future events or have family members volunteer to earn credits on their behalf. Cleburne State Park also offers camping facilities and a 116-acre lake for post-race recovery. The current course record for the 50-mile distance is held by Zachary Miller, who clocked a time of 9:02:31 in 2018.

Learn more about the host city, Cleburne.
Cleburne is one of those fun close-minded towns named after a Confederate general in the Cross Timbers region. It was first a rendezvous point for Confederate soldiers during the Civil War, mostly under Patrick Cleburne, then a watering hole on the Chisholm Trail, then a stop along multiple railroads. But today it's more or less a conservative suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with a couple of museums and a reservoir known as Lake Cleburne.
