The Coureurs de Bois Trail Race returns to Petawawa, Ontario on August 2nd, offering a day of community spirit, fun, and friendly competition with distances ranging from the energetic Munchkin Run to the challenging Relay race. The course venue is the scenic trails within the Petawawa National Historic Site and Forestry Centre. Runners will face a firm yet slightly soft surface as they navigate through the park's diverse terrain. The 10 km run includes notable features such as the historic grounds, making it both an athletic challenge and a tour of local landmarks. For those who enjoy team competition or simply want to push themselves further, there are relay options available.
The race starts from the main parking lot near the visitor centre at Petawawa National Historic Site and Forestry Centre on Campbell Road South, east of Highway 417 in Petawawa. The start is followed by a gradual descent into the park before an uphill climb back to the finish line where participants will be greeted with refreshments and encouragement from fellow runners.
Expect temperatures around 20-25°C (68-77°F) on race day, which should feel comfortable for most athletes but keep in mind that humidity might make it a bit more challenging. The UV index is moderate at 4.9, so sunscreen will be essential to protect from the sun.
