Coosa River Challenge XXIV 2026

With four to six hours of trail running, mountain biking, river paddling and a few challenging features throughout, this is the perfect race for beginners looking to explore a new sport, or seasoned racers looking for a real challenge. A compass is required, but with simple navigation, the Coosa River Challenge is a race that is fun for everyone. Kayaks, paddles, and PFDs are available for rental as part of the total registration fee, or racers may bring their own. Racers must supply their own bicycles. We expect the top teams to finish in about four hours with the majority of racers to have finished in six hours. The route incorporates the amazing trails at Swayback Bridge, the last of the whitewater of Alabama's major river systems. This year we plan to finish in downtown Wetumpka's beautiful Gold Star Park. The Friday meeting and dinner and the pre-race meeting are located at Coosa River Adventures Wetumpka. Required Gear: Compass All racers must wear CPSC-marked bicycle helmets while biking and paddling. Type I, II, or III PFDs must be worn during the water sections. PFDs can be supplied at no cost, and you may also bring your own PFD and paddle if you wish. Suggested Gear: Hydration container -- Camelbak or similar bladder, or water bottles. Hydration stations will be available at various transition areas.
