The Cocodona endurance series is a collection of five point-to-point foot races scheduled for May 4–9, 2026, traversing the diverse landscapes of central Arizona. Managed by Aravaipa Running, the event connects historic towns and rugged trails, starting in the Sonoran Desert and ending in the pine forests of Flagstaff.
Race Categories and DistancesThe series offers varying levels of difficulty and distance, ranging from a 40-mile tour to a monumental 250-mile traverse.
| Race | Distance | Start Date | Route Overview |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cocodona 250 | 252.9 Miles | May 4 | Black Canyon City to Flagstaff |
| Sedona Canyons 125 | 125.9 Miles | May 6 | Jerome to Flagstaff |
| Bradshaw Brute 100 | 100.0 Miles | May 4 | Black Canyon City (Bradshaw Mountains) |
| Mingus Traverse | 79.8 Miles | May 5 | Prescott to Sedona |
| Flagstaff Crest | 39.1 Miles | May 8 | Fort Tuthill to Downtown Flagstaff |
Each course presents unique technical challenges, with the 250-mile race reaching a maximum elevation of 9,241 feet and an estimated cumulative gain of nearly 38,791 feet. The terrain across the series is predominantly off-road, consisting of roughly 45% to 68% single-track trails and 20% to 50% double-track trails, with minimal pavement sections.
Logistically, the event functions as a curated journey through central Arizona, passing through historic mining areas like Crown King, the iconic Granite Dells in Prescott, and the red rock formations of Sedona. Aid stations are strategically placed along all routes, providing water, electrolyte drinks, and hot meals with options for specific dietary needs such as vegan and gluten-free diets. To support the endurance effort, the Cocodona 250 features 21 aid stations and a 125-hour time limit for completion.
The geography of the course is particularly diverse, moving from the lower-elevation Sonoran desert into high-altitude pine forests. Runners navigate significant elevation profiles, including the ascent of Mt. Elden and Mingus Mountain. Because the event spans several days in May, participants must prepare for extreme temperature fluctuations, ranging from intense desert heat during the day to freezing temperatures in the mountain ranges at night.
