The Coast To Coaster Road Race is a 232-mile journey run across Ohio, beginning on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Inspired by legendary endurance events like the Heart of the South (HOTS) or Last Annual Vol State (LAVS), the course connects Sandusky to Mason, taking runners from the shores of Lake Erie toward the Kings Island area. This is a semi-autonomous road race where participants navigate public roads and manage their own logistics, including food, hydration, and sleep strategies. The event emphasizes a "no-frills" experience, though it provides GPS trackers for all runners so friends and family can monitor their progress in real-time.

Sandusky, the starting point of the race, is a port city on Lake Erie with a population of approximately 25,000 residents. The demographic profile of Sandusky is 64.6% White, 22.3% Black or African American, 6.1% Hispanic or Latino, and 0.6% Asian, with a median annual household income of about $43,000. Geographically, the 232-mile route traverses the flat to gently rolling plains of central and western Ohio, moving through a mix of industrial lakefronts, vast agricultural corridors, and small rural towns. Weather in late April in Ohio is notoriously unpredictable; runners should expect average lows of 6°C (43°F) and highs of 16°C (61°F). Rain is common during this period, and northern winds off the lake can create significant chill factors during the initial stages of the run.
The race allows for both crewed and uncrewed participants. Crewed runners have the advantage of a support vehicle for supplies and shelter, while uncrewed "screwed" runners must rely entirely on commercial establishments like gas stations, restaurants, and hotels along the public roads. A hallmark of the Coast To Coaster is the inclusion of unique cultural stops; past editions have featured tours of the Ohio State Reformatory. Safety is the primary rule of the event, with strict requirements for staying on course and maintaining respectful conduct toward locals. For those opting for the transportation package, vehicles are left at the finish line in Mason the day before the race, and participants are shuttled to a hotel near the Sandusky start line to prepare for the 7:30 AM departure.

Learn more about the host city, Sandusky.
Sandusky is a city in Ohio Erie shore west and county seat of Erie County, on Ohio's north coast along Lake Erie between Cleveland and Toledo. It is perhaps best known for Cedar Point Amusement Park, home to some of the world's tallest and fastest roller coasters. It is one of Ohio's prettiest downtowns and is very clean. Walking along the waterfront in the business district should be considered very safe compared to most cities. There is a pier for those who want to fish. They say late winter fishing is great at the pier due to the fish gathering in Sandusky Bay for spawning in the local rivers and streams. Elevation: 580ft/176.8m.
